Every time I see the US military and its supporters blathering about 'cyber-war', which they seem to be doing a great deal of lately, I can't help but imagine some mildly retarded child watching some really silly 90s TV show like VR Troopers and reading back issues of Wired, and excitedly saying "When I grow up, I'm going to be a cyber-warrior!"

It's actually perfectly calculated to give the herd a good scare and drum up support for whatever authoritarian bullshit they're planning, while lulling the nerds who would normally be the biggest opposition into a false sense of security on the grounds that no one who says things like that with a straight face can possibly have the slightest clue.

I think the biggest problem that they're not admitting is they are looking for people who already know exactly what they need WITHOUT training. And if they want that to change quickly, they'll have to come up with a way of getting people trained. Businesses and the government depend far too heavily on people somehow gaining knowledge and skills without anyone being around to help them gain that same knowledge and those same skills.

Of course, there are people who DO already know what they need (I'd venture you're one of them) but that's not really the point!

And yeah I realize that makes it seem like I missed your point. But I still think they are right that there are not too many US citizens out there that can fit the bill of what they're asking for without training. You're just super smart!

Maybe, but there's no way in hell I'd even consider working for the government. I'm far more likely to be what those delusional tyrants think they're 'defending' against.
